The lock no longer has a function for shipping, but is crucial for the water management of the Oudlandpolder. There are 650 farmers active in the area. Ben Demeyere, New Polder Blankenberge: “In our polder at two inlet points, where we can take on the Ghent-Ostend Water in our polder from the Ghent-Ostend. These are the infusions that the Governor talks about in times of drought consultation. This is one of the points in our polder where we can take that water. That is why that is so important.”
