The website The memory of Drenthe is increasingly becoming the actual memory of the province. The Drents Archief, the manager of the online portal, has renewed the website. As a result, historical associations and small museums can now add information.
The website was set up just under ten years ago. The basis of this was the encyclopedia of Drenthe, which was once released as a book in three parts. “We put that online at the time,” says Ferry Sieders of the Drents Archief. “Now it was time for the website to be renewed. But we also wanted to bring something else.”
That otherwise is a system at the back of the website, where historic associations and small museums can introduce their material. “They can load their magazines digitally there,” explains Sieders. “In addition, they can also enter the rest of their archives. That is not entirely necessary, a photo with a description is sufficient. This will then be found on the website. If visitors want more information, they know which association they should turn to.”
For example, the system must continue to grow and more and more historical information must be placed on it. It has been tested in the past period and have added some historical associations material. That works. Sieders: “We know enough now, we can start.”
For the time being, Drenthe’s memory remains a supplement to the website of the Drents Archief itself. But how long that stays that way is not known. “It could just be that in about ten years we merge both websites into a memory of Drenthe.”
