René van der Gijp believes that Harm Edens is really overreacting to Albert Verlinde’s criticism. The Dit Was Het Nieuws star couldn’t stop talking about it at Pauw & De Wit. “What nonsense.”
Dit Was Het Nieuws has a birthday and there is a lot of media attention for that. The presenter of the program, Harm Edens, said in an interview that he looks back on their five years at RTL with mixed feelings. “That was an environment where we didn’t belong. That smell of the program in front of you was still there and that was quite difficult.”
Ungrateful
Albert Verlinde thinks that is a derogatory comment and rebuked Harm in RTL Tonight. And the presenter is really upset about this: he decided to take Albert back for several minutes at the table at Pauw & De Wit, where his husband Onno Hoes happened to be sitting at the table. Harm states that he did not mean anything negative by ‘the smell’.
It is clear that Albert is simply right, says Wilfred Genee. “It was clear that he was insinuating something there,” he says Today Inside.
Bullshit
René van der Gijp finds Harm very hysterical. “That’s all nonsense, boy, isn’t it?”
Wilfred: “He was confronted about it and then he was angry.”
René: “He kept it up for far too long. You have to stop at a certain point. He wanted to be right. There are a lot of people like that. You have a lot of people on TV who want to be right.”
No bother
That doesn’t bother René, he says. “Not at all. Even if I tell the best story and you say: ‘It’s not true’, that’s fine too. No, but I’m not interested, you know. Jan-Jaap was sitting on the other side and he said: ‘It wasn’t that bad after all.’ ‘No, no, no!’ Then I think: man, please stop. You’re right. You’re right. I say that in front of the TV, right? He just shouldn’t.”
He continues: “To be fair, we worked there for quite a long time (at RTL, ed.). Great people. Sven is a nice guy, we didn’t get Peter van der Vorst, the other guy was also a fantastic guy, the CEO before that who went to Germany, also perfect.”
‘It bothers me’
Johan Derksen thinks Harm is overrated anyway. “That program of his really bothers me. I don’t like that Peter Pannekoek and I don’t like that Jan-Jaap either, so I can’t laugh about it.”
“But what they do: they come up with written jokes, they are in the autocue and then they read them out loud and laugh really hard at them, even though they have already thought of it all in the afternoon!”
