René de Knegt is in final handball selection, Donny Vink drops out

National coach Staffan Ollson has announced the final handball selection for the start of the European Championship qualifying series. Aalsmeer goalkeeper René de Knegt is one of them. His teammate Donny Vink has lost weight.

The 24-year-old Vink was told two weeks ago that he was in the provisional Orange selection, but it is not yet a debut. De Knegt has already played eight international matches. In January he still played at the European Championship in Hungary. Due to multiple corona infections, he was then flown in halfway through the tournament.

In contrast to recent times, former Volendam player Florent Bourget is not in the final selection.

European Championship 2024

The handball gentlemen will compete against Belgium and Greece in the qualifying process for the European Championship 2024. National coach Olsson has included a total of twenty players in his selection. Besides De Knegt, Samir Benghanem (Aalsmeer), Jeffrey Boomhouwer (Aalsmeer) and Evert Kooijman (Volendam) have also been called up on behalf of the North Holland teams.

On Thursday, October 13, the handball men will play a home game against Belgium. Three days later, the Netherlands will play the second qualifier against Greece.
