Rendo wants to speed up the energy transition. ‘Approach it more as a crisis’

Director Eddy Veenstra of network company Rendo wants the energy transition to be accelerated. Approach it more like a crisis, is his call.

According to Veenstra, great technical innovations are taking place within the energy transition, but it is also important to keep up the pace in the implementation. “We shouldn’t wait for each other, but talk to each other,” he says.

Electricity station

As an example, Veenstra cites the construction of a new electricity station on the Riegmeer business park. The director wonders why it is accepted that the preparation and realization of such a substation takes five to ten years. “This is stagnating economic development,” he says. “How are we going to break this?”

Veenstra sees many opportunities for regional partnerships between the business community, grid managers and government, in which the implementation of projects is central. “The pace of the energy transition is an important point of attention.”

Positive result

Rendo closed the year 2022 with a positive result of almost 6 million euros, the amount that was also budgeted. Of the result, 5.5 million euros will be distributed to the nine shareholding municipalities in Drenthe and Overijssel.
