What some saw as a brilliant move looked like an act of desperation. Even if Donald Pols had not had an extreme right-wing apartheid past, he and Tata Steel would have been a constant subject of discussion. Discussion that would have distracted from the core: securing a healthy future for Tata. Whether this will still work remains to be seen.
