Mayor Rik Buyse of Wielsbeke understands the frustration of residents and traders. “People see the bridge closed and nothing happens, then suddenly it continues again. That causes frustration, but the result will be worth it,” he says. The bridge will be completely replaced, slightly wider and with a hanging double cycle path. The works will last until the end of October.
Mayor Koenraad Degroote of Dentergem is also planning simultaneous works at the beginning of Mandelstraat, where 20 social flats will be built. “We still have to find a solution to an appeal from a neighbor to start the demolition works,” says Degroote.
