After the last game of the season, unknown people broke into the Duisburg stadium and stole a post. A few days later he found himself in Essen.
The first leg of the second division relegation was an eye-catcher in several respects. On the one hand, things got heated on the pitch, with the first yellow card given in the 3rd minute. On the other hand, the goal of the day in Rot-Weiss Essen’s 1-0 win against Greuther Fürth came from a direct free kick. And then there was a post that Essen fans presented in the middle of the game. But it wasn’t a post from their own stadium; both goals in the stadium on Hafenstrasse were intact. It was from another venue.
In addition to the meter-long aluminum rod, the RWE Ultras held up a banner. There you can read: “MSV: From the dream. Your post in our trunk.”
Essen’s local rivals MSV Duisburg had missed out on relegation on the last third division matchday after a 1-1 draw against Viktoria Köln, while Essen had managed to overtake them with a win in injury time in Ulm.
A few days later, MSV Duisburg missed a post in its stadium. Unknown people broke into the Schauinsland Reisen Arena and stole it. Of all things, it was the post that midfielder Rasim Bulić hit in added time against Cologne.
If Bulić had hit the goal, Duisburg would now be relegation participants in Essen’s place. Apparently it was Essen supporters who stole the post.
