FC Volendam has killed two birds with one stone. It won 2-0 at Heracles Almelo and thus gained important points to maintain its position in the Premier League. This result also immediately results in relegation for the Almelo team. “The feeling is very good now,” says trainer Rick Kruys.
FC Volendam knew in advance that it could deal a hard blow to Heracles. Due to Excelsior’s 5-0 victory over FC Utrecht, one victory was enough to immediately relegate the Almelo team.
Relegation battle
Crucial matches are coming up for FC Volendam. With three rounds to go, the battle for safe places is still wide open. Together with Telstar and ExcelsiorThe New Orange engaged in an exciting battle. Left back Aaron Meijers has experience playing these types of matches.

Meijers was relegated from the Premier League twice in his career. Now he is keen to stay in it, especially because he is in his last matches as a professional footballer. The 38-year-old left foot is hanging up his shoes after the season. “The end is approaching and we have to deal with it well.”
The difference after rest
After a disappointing first half, Anthony Descotte broke open the game ten minutes after the break. Sava Cestic was sleeping soundly, which Descotte eagerly took advantage of. Robert Mühren then more than lived up to his role as super sub. As a substitute, he only needed forty seconds to score FC Volendam’s second.
The match did have an unpleasant ending. Ten minutes before the end, Heracles supporters threw fireworks on the field and loud explosions followed. The match was temporarily stopped.
