Relatives Carlo Heuvelman get word in Mallorca case

The relatives of Carlo Heuvelman will be given the floor on the seventh day of the Mallorca case. His father and mother make use of the right to speak in the court in Lelystad, as does his girlfriend. Four friends of Heuvelman have their victim statements read aloud by their lawyer.

27-year-old Heuvelman from Waddinxveen was seriously assaulted on July 14, shortly after 2 a.m., together with friends during a confrontation on the boulevard of the seaside resort of El Arenal on Mallorca. Heuvelman ended up unconscious on the street in front of café De Bierexpress, after which he was said to have been kicked several times. He died four days later from his injuries. The fatal nightlife was preceded by a fight at café De Zaak on the same boulevard, with victims from a different group.

Heuvelman’s parents, who usually follow the sessions via a video link, reacted with disappointment to the negative statements that the nine Hilversum suspects, aged 19 and 20, have made so far.

None of the three main suspects and six co-defendants say they have seen or touched Heuvelman. “My clients have said from the start that they want to hear the truth,” says lawyer Edwin Bosch, the lawyer for the next of kin. “The problem from the start is that the suspects do not honestly tell what they have seen. They all say ‘we are open to the facts’ and ‘oh it is so bad for the relatives’. But when it gets tense and When it comes to Carlo, no one has seen or done anything with Carlo. And that is simply not possible, because they themselves say that they are the only group that was there.”

The Public Prosecution Service will issue the punishment demands on Monday.
