Natasha Lyonne has revealed that she recently relapsed after decades of sobriety. “I made my relapse public, more on that to come,” the actress wrote on social media on Friday.
“Recovery is a lifelong process. For those out there struggling, remember: you are not alone,” Lyonne wrote in another post.
The actress did not provide any further information about the nature of the relapse.
Openness about your own path
The “Poker Face” star, who struggled with addiction in the early 2000s, had not used drugs since 2006. At that time, she went to a drug and alcohol rehab clinic because of her heroin addiction.
In 2012, Lyonne underwent open-heart surgery to repair a heart valve that had previously been damaged “as a result of drug use,” as she admitted.
Health and new motivation
Lyonne added that she wanted to reclaim her sobriety for “Baby Bambo.” A nod to her upcoming project about hockey player Sophie “Bambo” Braverman, which she is writing and directing.
Message to other affected people
“Keep it real, guys. We’re only as sick as our secrets. If no one told you today, I love you,” Lyonne wrote. “No matter how far we have fallen, we will see how our experience can help another. Keep going, kids. Don’t stop until the miracle happens. Wallpaper your minds with love. The rest is just noise and nonsense.”
Lyonne has long spoken openly about her addiction issues. In a 2017 interview, she said, “I’m such an open book that I have no problem talking about it and speaking freely. But I’ve kind of said everything on the subject. The truth is, behind this addiction are feelings that so many of us have. And they don’t just go away.”
