The municipality of Dijk en Waard is receiving more and more messages from private individuals who regret receiving Ukrainians. It is very nice to receive refugees, but according to acting mayor Peter Rehwinkel you should know what you are getting yourself into: “It is not the intention that refugees are sent away to the Transferium building.”

‘Look before you begin’, is the proverb that Rehwinkel uses. According to the acting mayor, refugees have been brought to the Transferium by private individuals in a number of situations. “It is impossible for us to also offer shelter to refugees who have been placed with private individuals. It is simply undesirable.”
The flow of refugees in Dijk and Waard is already started† 240 people can be accommodated in the Transferium building, but the municipality is also looking at other locations.
Discussions are currently being held with several parties for new reception places, but there are no concrete plans yet.
