Regional language singer Luuks Nijsingh died. The singer from Balkbrug was a well-known name in the Drenthe-speaking circuit with his songs in the southern Drentse dialect.
The singing farmer made a name for himself since the nineties. Nijsingh managed to unite his love for the countryside and the language in dozens of songs that touched the heart of many Drent and Overijsselaar.
Nijsingh released several albums in which he sang in dialect. In the early 1990s he performed in the program Music from Radio Drenthe. He had occurred before, but never on the radio. He impressed the listeners.
“He stood out for his simplicity and directness in his lyrics,” says Jans Polling, presenter of Muzements. “He made very nice songs that fit into the time of the era. Luuks was modest, that noticed, but he was convinced of what he did. That suited him.” Collaboration did Nijsingh with Dinie Bijker (keyboard and accordion) and Harry de Geeter (piano).
Luuks Nijsingh was 84 years old.
