Refugees transferred to Ter Apel after a fight at Bethelkerk

Two refugees who have been given temporary shelter in the Bethelkerk in Emmen since Monday evening have been transferred to Ter Apel. The reason was an argument between the two men. The duo were part of a group of thirty refugees who are given temporary shelter in the church at the Sterrenkamp.

Part of the fight took place outside on the street last night. The municipality of Emmen confirms the incident. “We spoke with local residents yesterday. We also had a conversation with the parties that organize reception in the church,” said a spokesperson.

The municipality has made additional agreements with the police. “Today, as a municipality, we once again contacted local residents to keep a finger on the pulse.”

According to the municipality, a number of local residents have contacted them to express concerns. One of the local residents also wrote a letter to RTV Drenthe about the incident.

It is appreciated that the two ruffs have been brought back to Ter Apel. But the feeling of safety in the neighborhood has taken a hit throughout the event, she writes.

The reception in the Bethelkerk is the result of an action by the protestant churches in Emmen. Refugees slept outside at the application center in Ter Apel. An emergency shelter in Zoutkamp is currently being prepared to deal with this dire situation. It will be ready on September 10. Until then, some of the asylum seekers will be housed in various churches in Drenthe.
