Red Hot Chili Peppers topped the album chart twice in one year

The return of guitarist John Frusciante was apparently a huge success for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Not only did they record two albums at the same time: UNLIMITED LOVE and RETURN OF THE DREAM CANTEEN both conquered the top of the charts.

In April, UNLIMITED LOVE became the band’s first album since STADIUM ARCADIUM to reach #1 on the US Billboard chart. Now RETURN OF THE DREAM CANTEEN, released on October 14th, caught up. According to Billboard, System of A Down last did so in 2005 with sister albums MEZMERIZE and HYPNOTIZE. Both RHCP albums also reached number 1 in the charts in Germany.

STADIUM ARCADIUM was the last Chili Peppers album with Frusciante, who left the band in 2009 to focus on his solo career. With Frusciante’s successor Josh Klinghoffer, the band released the albums I’M WITH YOU (2011) and THE GETAWAY (2016).
