Red Cross opens Humanitarian Service Point at Ter Apel

On Monday, the Red Cross opened a Humanitarian Service Point in front of the application center for asylum seekers in Ter Apel. A spokesperson for the aid organization confirms this after reports from Het Parool and RTV Noord.

Asylum seekers who have to wait outside the gate of the application center can contact the Red Cross for information, medical help, food and drinks and toys for children. This is a two week test. “After that we can extend,” said the spokesperson. The help point is open on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Red Cross previously set up tents in Ter Apel, but the organization no longer wants to do this because it “does not offer a full humanitarian solution”.

The Red Cross has also opened a new Humanitarian Service Point in Amsterdam, at the office of the aid organisation. Earlier, the Red Cross ceased its cooperation with the service point at Central Station, because the municipality tightened the policy for who can be helped there. The spokesperson for the aid organization emphasizes that the new service point in Amsterdam also does not offer overnight stays.
