Red Bull Racing is F1 world champion

Red Bull Racing has now officially won the constructors’ title in Formula 1. The last time they won this title was in 2013. With three races left on the calendar, the team of Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez can no longer be overtaken.

This is the fifth constructors’ title for Red Bull Racing to win. From 2010 to 2013, Red Bull Racing managed to win this award four years in a row with the help of Sebastian Vettel. Last year Max Verstappen became world champion for the first time, but the constructors title remained in the hands of Mercedes.

The Grand Prix summarized

The start
With lights out, Verstappen got the jump on Sainz to take the lead, with the Ferrari stalling. Russell’s tires locked into Turn 1 and he hit Carlos Sainz, the Ferrari driver was forced to withdraw his car from the race due to a water leak. Verstappen took the lead and soon made a gap of 3.7 seconds on the rest of the field

First Safety Car
Hamilton came to the pits for the hard tires on lap 13, with Verstappen reacting by pitting on the next lap, growing the lead to 6.3 seconds at the end of lap 18.

The race was then neutralized after Valtteri Bottas lost control of his Alfa Romeo in Turn 19 and slid into the gravel pit, the Safety Car was brought out.

This allowed for shorter pit stops for Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel who had driven a long time, the race resumed on lap 22 of 56.

On the restart, however, Stroll steered left on the straight and was rammed by Fernando Alonso, who ran into the air but was able to recover to the pits. The Safety Car was used again for the rubble of the wrecked Aston Martin.

Race resumes
The race resumed for the second time on lap 25, but Verstappen complained of problems with the handling of his Red Bull before switching to a new set of hard tires on lap 35.

The next time Verstappen passed the pits, a slow tire change on the left front cost Verstappen a position to Hamilton and Leclerc. This put Sebastian Vettel in the lead and has achieved a huge career milestone, having completed 3500 race laps in the lead.

End of the race

Verstappen then dealt with Leclerc at Turn 12 on lap 39 and passed Hamilton 11 laps later for the lead to take the win – the 33rd of his career, and the fifth constructors’ title for Red Bull Racing.

Hamilton took a nice second place for the Mercedes team, Leclerc took a nice third place with Perez fourth and Russell fifth in the second Mercedes.
