RB Leipzig achieved a record win in the Bundesliga, which in turn marked an unprecedented defeat for their opponents FC Augsburg in the upper house. At the 6-0 (4-0) goal festival in the FCA stadium, the Saxons around the strong talents Yan Diomande (18) and Assan Ouédraogo (19) appeared enthusiastic and ice-cold. Christoph Baumgartner (26) also continued his excellent form and even finds himself among the best October goalscorers.
FC Augsburg have never experienced a 6-0 defeat in their own stadium in the Bundesliga. The highest home defeat to date has been a 0:4 on various occasions; most recently on the first matchday of the 2022/23 season against SC Freiburg. The Fuggerstadt team suffered their biggest defeat ever in the upper house when they lost 8-1 in Wolfsburg in May 2019 (victories, defeats, etc.: the Augsburg record games at a glance).
And Leipzig has never won 6-0 away from home either. The Red Bulls have won 6-1 in recent years against today’s second division teams Schalke, Fürth and Hertha BSC. The biggest win in their own stadium since promotion to the Bundesliga was an 8-0 win against Mainz 05 in November 2019.
On Saturday, Diomande (10th minute), Rômulo (18th) and Antonio Nusa (22nd) scored in the first half hour against coach Sandro Wagner’s overwhelmed host team. The game was decided halfway through the first half. Almost every Leipzig shot was a hit against a defenseless, holey Augsburg defense that allowed itself to be countered and taken by surprise. Baumgartner (38th) increased the score to 0:4 before the break. It was his fourth goal in October (among October’s top scorers in the top five leagues). The strong Ouédraogo crowned his performance after the break (56th). Defender Castello Lukeba (65th) went one better after a goalkeeper error.
