45-year-old Fábio continues his impressive career and extends his contract with Fluminense. The decision could further increase his record number.

Brazilian football club Fluminense has extended the contract with 45-year-old goalkeeper Fábio until the end of 2027. Fábio, who holds the world record with 1,426 professional appearances, is continuing his impressive career and has the opportunity to further expand his record number. The experienced goalkeeper has been playing for the traditional club from Rio de Janeiro for four years and won the Copa Libertadores with them in 2023.

Last season, Fábio played all league games for the full 90 minutes. As a result, last August he managed to surpass the previous record of English goalkeeper Peter Shilton, who played 1,390 games.

Fábio also impressed at the Club World Cup in the USA in the summer. His performances brought him into the pre-selection for FIFA World Goalkeeper 2025.
