No fewer than 34 boats sail along on Saturday during the canal parade: a record number of. “And there are also participants who would rather use a much larger boat, but we couldn’t do that,” says Adrie Rotteveel. Not every boat is suitable for the narrow and low canals of Alkmaar, who are known – or notorious – for their low bridges.

Some participating companies and organizations would have liked to dance and parties on board with more than twenty people. “So if people have larger – low – boats, they can already report for next year,” says a smiling Adrie.
Preparations have been flawless so far and the weather forecast also seems good this year. “That would be fantastic, but that is the only thing you don’t control.”
