Record international Spitse extends contract with Ajax by 3 years

Football star Sherida Spitse has extended her contract with Ajax by three years. The 32-year-old midfielder, the record international of Orange, is now stuck in Amsterdam until the summer of 2025. Spitse played her two hundredth international match for the ‘Lionesses’ against England on Friday.

The captain missed a penalty in Leeds with a score of 1-1. England, led by national coach Sarina Wiegman, then ran out to a big win over the reigning champion of Europe (5-1).

A day later, Ajax announced that Spitse has re-signed. De Friezin has been playing in Amsterdam since the beginning of last year. Spitse won the Eredivisie Cup and the KNVB Cup with Ajax. “I really want to become champion with Ajax, that is the ultimate goal,” says Spitse, who previously played for sc Heerenveen, FC Twente and the Norwegian clubs Kvinner and Valerenga.

The midfielder has agreed with Ajax that she will remain associated with the Amsterdam club after her active career as a trainer. “First I have to get my UEFA A diploma and then continue. I would be very happy if I could become a head coach here one day. But first I want to play football for a long time. Maybe another five, six or seven years. I don’t want to put an age on that.”
