Record edition for summer swimming in Bruges

Nearly 10,000 swimmers dove into the canals during the summer. That is a third more than in the record year 2019. On average, the swimmers stayed at the swimming pontoon for about 2 hours, which also shows that it is a nice place.

The swimming pontoon has meanwhile been demolished and the city services involved are already looking ahead. “A thorough evaluation of the initiative is currently underway. We will investigate how we can improve the offer, but also make it more financially sustainable. But due to the increasing popularity, it goes without saying that we want to continue to offer recreational open water swimming in our city center next summer,” concludes Schepen Demon.
