Real Madrid won the Champions League for the fourteenth time in history on Saturday. The Spaniards were 0-1 too strong for Liverpool in the final in the Stade de France in Paris, mainly thanks to an outstanding goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Liverpool were much better than Real before half-time and had several good chances, but Courtois always had an answer. On the stroke of half-time it was hit on the other side, but on the advice of the VAR, Real striker Karim Benzema’s goal was rejected for offside.
In the second half, Liverpool pushed again and Real waited for a counterattack. In such an outbreak in the 59th minute, the team of coach Carlo Ancelotti scored. Vinícius Junior tapped in a Federico Valverde cross (0-1) and that turned out to be the only goal of the match. Liverpool still had chances, especially through Mohamed Salah, but Courtois kept saving Real, which already won the league title in Spain last month.
With the overall victory in the Champions League, Real crowns a special European season, in which the club eliminated defending champions Chelsea and title favorites Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City. Another top favorite was defeated with Liverpool.
