At the gala in Doha, two great sports stars received the award as the best of the year. Two German stars will also be honored.

Aitana Bonmatí and Vinícius Júnior are world footballer and world footballer of the year 2024. The Spaniard and the Brazilian were honored by FIFA at the “The Best” gala in Doha (Qatar) on Tuesday evening. For Bonmatí from FC Barcelona, ​​it is the second honor in a row after 2023, and what’s more: after her triumph at the Ballon d’Or at the end of October, the 26-year-old also won the second major individual award of the year in world football.

Bonmati won the Champions League with FC Barcelona last May, scoring 1-0 in the final against Olympique Lyon (2-0). The 26-year-old also became Spanish champion and cup winner with Barca last season.

Vinícius Júnior came away empty-handed at the Ballon d’Or, whereupon his club Real Madrid boycotted the event. Now the attacker has won the big prize he longed for. Last season, the Madrilenians won the Champions League in addition to the Spanish championship. Vinicius was a decisive factor with his goals alongside his teammates Dani Carvajal, Jude Bellingham and Kroos, who were also nominated.

The “Puskas Award” for the most beautiful goal of the year went to Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United. The Argentine scored with an overhead kick against Everton in the Premier League. Garnacho’s compatriot and Argentina national goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was honored as World Goalkeeper of the Year, while US national goalkeeper Alyssa Naher (Chicago Red Stars) won in the women’s category. World Coach of the Year was Emma Hayes, who coaches both Chelsea FC and the US national team; Carlo Ancelotti (Real Madrid) won the men’s award.

Two Germans were also part of the gala: Antonio Rüdiger and Toni Kroos were voted into the World XI of the Year. All coaches and captains of the national teams as well as specialist journalists and fans were eligible to vote in the elections.
