Real Madrid probably wants to extend Ancelotti’s contract – but not to Brazil?

Contract in Madrid ends in 2024

Does Brazil have to look for another national coach? And can Bayer Leverkusen breathe a sigh of relief for the time being when it comes to the future of Xabi Alonso? Both questions depend on the future of coach Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. And according to the portal “Relevo“, there are increasing signs that Ancelotti and Real will not part ways as early as 2024. Quite the opposite: According to the report, the Royals are working on an extension with the Italian, who is actually said to be taking over the Seleção next summer.

It is now reported that Real wants Ancelotti to sit on the bench beyond the end of his contract in 2024. The club is pursuing the plan to start negotiations with the veteran at the end of the year if the positive sporting development continues. And for Ancelotti, remaining Madrilenian is still the first option. And therefore not to become the new Brazilian national coach. “Los Blancos” are relying on continuity, Ancelotti’s handling of young players like Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Eduardo Camavinga is very much appreciated.

The 64-year-old took over at Real in the summer of 2021 for the second time after his first term in office from 2013 to 2015. He led the Spanish top club to, among other things, two Champions League victories and a championship. The successful Bayer coach Alonso has recently been repeatedly mentioned as his possible successor in Madrid – who Ancelotti himself can also imagine. “I would like Xabi Alonso, Raúl and Álvaro Arbeloa to become Real Madrid coaches one day,” said Ancelotti at a press conference at the end of September ahead of his team’s LaLiga duel with Las Palmas (2-0).

No coaching castling at Real Madrid? Ancelotti is supposed to coach Brazil

Ancelotti to Brazil, Alonso to Real – perhaps neither transfer will happen. Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the CBF football association, announced last July that Ancelotti would lead the Brazilian national team in the summer of 2024. The coach should therefore lead the Seleção in the Copa América, which takes place from June 20th to July 14th, 2024. Since the World Cup in Qatar and the elimination in the quarter-finals against Croatia, Tite’s final successor has been unclear. Ramon Menezes took over the duties on an interim basis, followed by Fernando Diniz in the summer. The 49-year-old has been working at Fluminense Rio de Janeiro since April 2022 and continues to be a coach there.
