The duel between Real and Bayern is a real classic in the Champions League. The Madrilenians suffer a setback before the cracker.
Real Madrid suffered a bitter setback three days before the Champions League clash against FC Bayern. The Royals lost 1:2 (0:1) at RCD Mallorca on matchday 30 of the Spanish La Liga. Manu Morlanes (41.) and Vedat Muriqi (90.+1) scored the outsider’s surprising victory, while Éder Militão equalized in the meantime (88).
The Madrilenians not only ruined their dress rehearsal before the quarter-final first leg against FC Bayern on Tuesday (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online), but also suffered a bitter setback in the Spanish league. League leaders FC Barcelona are four points ahead of Real and still have a game in hand. The Catalans will face Atlético Madrid on Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, the defeat of the Royal team comes as a surprise not only because of the supposedly small opponent. Álvaro Arbeloa’s team had recently won five games in a row across all competitions and had only had their stars spared to a limited extent in Mallorca. Vinícius Junior and Jude Bellingham sat out for an hour, but regular players like Antonio Rüdiger, Arda Güler and Kylian Mbappé started.
