Madrid (AP) – Just under a week before the round of 16 second leg in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain, the Spanish record champions Real Madrid are worried about the use of Toni Kroos.
The 2014 world champion and former Bayern professional injured himself during training, the specialist newspaper “AS” and other Spanish media reported, citing club circles. There was initially no communication from the club.
According to reports, an examination on Friday will provide information about the severity of the muscle problems in the left leg. However, the club doctors are skeptical that the 32-year-old midfield director can be used at the Bernabéu on March 9th. Madrid have to make up for a 0-1 draw in the first leg.
In addition to Kroos, Real coach Carlo Ancelotti will have to do without another midfielder against Paris. The Brazilian Casemiro is out with a yellow card suspension – as is left-back Ferland Mendy. “Alarm at Real”, headlined the Madrid sports newspaper “Marca”.
According to media reports, Kroos will definitely have to watch Saturday’s league clash against Real Sociedad San Sebastián because of the pain. In the Primera División, however, the royal team can cope with failures: After 26 of a total of 38 match days, Real leads the table with 60 points and six points ahead of pursuers Sevilla. Third-placed Betis Sevilla already have 14 points fewer than the leaders.
