Because real fur may have been used, Aldi Süd is removing a set of hair clips from sale. The food discounter announced this when asked by the German Press Agency. The animal rights organization Aninova had previously made allegations. Investigations should therefore show that the article contains real fur from China. However, this is not apparent to customers.

Aldi Süd wants to examine the allegations and says it is in contact with the supplier. During the purchasing process, he assured that “no real fur or other animal fibers were used,” the company explained. This is contractually agreed.

The discounter has been offering the “set of two Christmas hair clips with a reindeer motif” since last week. Customers can exchange the item if necessary, a spokesman said. Aninova’s advice should be taken seriously. Aldi Süd emphasized its “high animal welfare standards”.

Criticism of Aldi Süd: “completely unacceptable”

The grocer advertises that it is “100 percent fur-free” and is one of the signatories of “Fur Free Retailer”. This is an initiative by retailers who are committed to refraining from selling fur products – “to protect endangered species,” it says on the Aldi Süd website.

The animal rights organization Aninova sharply criticized the behavior. “It is completely unacceptable that real fur is sold under the label of a supposedly fur-free company,” said CEO Jan Peifer. People grabbed this product “without knowing that animals were killed for it.”
