Janelle Monáe has released a new song “Float” with Seun Kuti & Egypt 80. The number comes as an R&B song, in the verses Monáe raps to the horns of the Afrobeat band and the driving trap hat rolls.

The song has been a regular on NBA Saturday Primetime since late last year during commercials for NBA games. The song will be used by ESPN until mid-March.

The single with son Fela Kutis – the activist and pioneer of Afrobeat – follows the 2018 album “Dirty Computer”. After Kuti’s death in 1997, Seun Kuti took over the management of Egypt 80.

“Dirty Computer” was accompanied by a sci-fi musical of the same name and was nominated for two Grammys. Monáe is also an actress. Last year she starred in the Netflix film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. In 2016, she starred in Hidden Figures and Moonlight.
