RB Leipzig’s Klostermann fit in time for the World Cup – last few months “not easy personally”

Last used on match day 1

Defender Lukas Klostermann from RB Leipzig is relieved that he was nominated by Hansi Flick for the World Cup in Qatar despite a long injury break. “That was a precision landing for me. The last few weeks and months have not been easy for me personally,” said the 26-year-old, who dropped out with a torn syndesmosis ligament, on the “Sky” broadcaster. “Of course, I’m all the more pleased that the national coach has placed his trust in me.”

Flick had previously called Klostermann into the World Cup squad, although the defender had only been used on the first matchday of the current Bundesliga season. The professional planned as a right-back “performed excellently” in the Nations League games last June, explained Flick: “We believe that he can help us in the course of the tournament.”

The nomination of Klostermann’s club colleague David Raum was less surprising. “It’s a great experience for me to be part of, where I’m allowed to be,” said the left-back. “Every little boy” dreams of participating in the World Cup. The two defensive specialists are the only two pros from the “Red Bulls” who made it into Flick’s squad. FC Bayern has the largest block with seven players, followed by Borussia Dortmund with five.
