RB Leipzig wants to convince Christopher Nkunku with massive investments

“I’ve said it before. And I’ll say it again here on ARD: Christopher Nkunku will be our player again next season,” emphasized RB Leipzig’s managing director Oliver Mintzlaff recently on the sidelines of the semi-final game in the DFB Cup against Union Berlin (2-1). Nevertheless, the rumors about the departure of by far the best midfield scorer in 2021/22 from the top 15 leagues persist, while the “Red Bulls” try to keep their rising star.

The envisaged contract extension should bring the Frenchman a large salary increase, and an exit clause is also an issue. According to “Bild”, Nkunku should sign for another year, with 8 million euros he would then earn almost three times as much (previously 3 million euros). An exit clause for 2023 is to be set at 65 million euros.

However, nothing is concrete yet, as the efforts would depend on other factors such as club takeovers, financial possibilities or further transfers. The talks between the players and RB Leipzig should continue, but the goal is still a change in the summer.

According to “dpa” information, national player Marcel Halstenberg (30) and playmaker Kevin Kampl (31) will extend their contracts with the Saxons. RB is also trying to get a new working paper with Konrad Laimer (24), whose contract expires in summer 2023. If the Austrian national player rejects the offer, he would have to be sold in the summer if Leipzig still wants to generate a fee.
