Favorite RB Leipzig has been crowned German club champion in virtual football for the first time.
The team around the Danish eSports exceptional talent Anders “RBLZ_Vejrgang” Vejrgang (16) won the final of the VBL Club Championship on Sunday in Cologne 7-1 against FC St. Pauli, who became runners-up for the second time in a row. Leipzig follows last year’s winner 1. FC Heidenheim.
Vejrgang was instrumental in RB’s triumph in FIFA 22 soccer sim by beating Paulis Mustafa “FCSP_Musti” Cankal 7-0 in his final singles on Xbox. Earlier, German singles champion Vejrgang and Umut “RBLZ_Umut” Gültekin drew 1-1 in doubles against Cankal and Kamal “FCSP_Kamal” Kamboj. Finally, Gültekin made Leipzig’s success perfect with a 3-1 win over Kamboj on Playstation.
Vejrgang, who had attracted attention in the past with crazy winning streaks in the so-called Weekend League, competed for RB in the Club Championship for the first time this season. The prerequisite for this was the completion of the 16th year of life.
In Cologne, eight finalists, who were left over from a total of 26 clubs from the Bundesliga and 2nd division after the regular season, played for the total prize money of 65,000 euros. The individual final, the so-called VBL Grand Final, will also take place in Cologne on June 4th and 5th.
