RB Leipzig | Nkunku injury may be worse than expected

Bundesliga club RB Leipzig will have to do without their top attacker Christopher Nkunku for about ten weeks. According to information from “Bild”, the 25-year-old suffered a torn ligament in his left knee during training with the French national soccer team.

There was no confirmation from the Leipzig club. As the newspaper reported, Nkunku should be examined again in detail after his return to Leipzig before an exact diagnosis can be made. It is unclear when this will happen.

On November 15, Nkunku fell to the ground after a duel with team-mate Eduardo Camavinga in world champion France’s last training session before leaving for Qatar for the World Cup.

A sprain in his left knee was initially thought to have spelled the end of Nkunku’s World Cup dream. He was replaced by Frankfurt’s Randaal Kolo Muani in the French squad for the World Cup.

Nkunku was having a dream year before suffering an injury. He won the DFB Cup with RB Leipzig and was voted “Footballer of the Year” in Germany.

Overall, the 1.75 meter tall striker scored 33 points in the Bundesliga this year and is currently the top scorer with twelve goals. He was first called up to the Equipe Tricolore by France’s selection coach Didier Deschamps, for which he has now appeared eight times.
