RB Leipzig: Nkunku and Laimer soon gone? That’s what Gulacsi says

RB Leipzig can end their turbulent campaign on Saturday by winning the DFB Cup. At the same time, the Saxons are facing an uncertain summer, as managers Christopher Nkunku and Konrad Laimer are repeatedly associated with other clubs such as FC Bayern. Captain Péter Gulácsi hopes the duo can be retained.

“I have great confidence in the club. What I can say from the dressing room: everyone is in the mood for RB,” said the captain in an interview with “Sport Bild”.

Gulácsi continued: “And if someone does leave, we’ve proven that we can still make steps forward and keep celebrating new successes. Hopefully winning the cup this year.”

Nkunku and Laimer are considered exit candidates due to their strong performances. According to reports, Laimer in particular is a preferred candidate for FC Bayern.

Gulácsi hopes for a big party with RB Leipzig

At the weekend, however, RB Leipzig will first face the DFB Cup final against SC Freiburg, in which Nkunku and Laimer will most likely be part of head coach Domenico Tedesco’s starting XI.

The 36-year-old followed the previously released Jesse Marsch at RB Leipzig in December 2021. Success returned under Tedesco. RB finished fourth in the Bundesliga and thus qualified for the Champions League. In the Europa League, Leipzig’s path led to the semi-finals, where it ended against Rangers from Glasgow.

In the DFB Cup, the Saxons are reaching for the greatest success in their young club history. “Glasgow was very bitter! We had a huge chance of a European final, it doesn’t come every day. It’s now about slowly proving to ourselves and everyone else that we can win titles,” Gulácsi summed up: “The party at the Bundesliga The rise in Leipzig was tough. If we win the trophy, the city will tremble even more.”
