RB Leipzig gets big points against Eintracht Frankfurt

It remains a gray December for Eintracht Frankfurt: the next defeat comes in Leipzig.

Coach Dino Toppmöller ran hot again in the icy cold of Leipzig, pushing his players well into added time – but it didn’t help: Eintracht Frankfurt also lost the Bundesliga game at RB Leipzig and is now in the middle of a small crisis in results. It was 1:2 (1:1) on Sunday evening, just eleven days earlier Eintracht had already failed against the Saxons in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup. Due to the defeat, Frankfurt has to let Bayer Leverkusen pass in the table and is only in third place.

“The last week and a half are certainly not the best time. It’s difficult to judge exactly what the problem is,” said Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp on “DAZN” and then found a specific point of criticism: “We always get the last four or five games Conceding a goal right after the break. If it happens so often in a row, there must be a reason. Then you’re chasing again and that costs grain.”

Just three days after the first Europa League defeat at Olympique Lyon (2:3), the goals from Nathaniel Brown (40th) were not enough for Eintracht, and in the end the fourth competitive game in a row was without a win.

Frankfurt has to defend itself against RB attacks

Benjamin Sesko (19th) and Lois Openda (51st) scored for Leipzig, who had to cope with an early exit from the Champions League against Aston Villa (2:3) on Tuesday. In the league, however, RB remains on the road to success thanks to the victory and moved level with Frankfurt in fourth place on points (27).

Right at the beginning there was a moment of shock from the guests’ point of view: Christoph Baumgartner got through to Openda, who was taking off, the striker was first denied by Kevin Trapp, Baumgartner caught the rebound – but the hit didn’t count, Openda was offside when the Austrian passed .

A little later, SGE striker Omar Marmoush appeared in the Leipzig penalty area. Instead of finishing himself, he looked for Hugo Ekitike and the Leipzig defense intercepted the pass (5th). RB now continued to apply pressure. Baumgartner initially failed to get past Trapp, but Sesko followed up with a header from close range.

The Frankfurt team, who were missing the injured Tuta, barely found their way into the game; instead, the Leipzig offensive kept rolling towards the goal. Trapp had to intervene decisively several times.

On the other hand, a shot from Hugo Larsson (30th) called for RB keeper Maarten Vandevoordt, who, as in the cup, was given preference over Peter Gulacsi. A little later, a free kick from Marmoush hit the crossbar (32′).

Shortly before the break, the equalizer was achieved: Arthur Theate played a vertical pass to Can Uzun, who passed it on to Brown with contact, who took the shot ice-cold. The game remained competitive. Openda took the lead again after a corner, but Frankfurt didn’t let up either.
