Rayen (15) loses battle against leukemia: “Three days, he was suddenly no longer allowed”

The leukemia caused his kidneys to shut down. Rayen (15) from Duffel battled cancer for almost two years. On Thursday he was told by the doctors that there was nothing more they could do for him. He died at home on Monday night, in his mother’s arms. “We only had each other. I said for three days how much I love him and what a wonderful son he was,” she says in tears. The boy and his mother were in the news a few weeks ago when they were stuck in a traffic jam during the farmers’ protests, on their way for alternative treatment in Utrecht.
