Although the shooting of ravens has decreased today, the bird enthusiast says this incident should not be taken lightly.
“Only about 1,200 to 1,400 ravens live in the Netherlands, with about 150 breeding pairs. The population grows a little annually, by about 2 percent, but this of course does not help.”
According to volunteer Sinnema from the bird shelter, this raven is also one that formed a breeding pair. “That makes it even more unfortunate.”
In the meantime, the raven in Ureterp is gaining strength until he can return to nature. Whether that will work remains exciting. “It really is make or break,” says Sinnema. “But the raven has to make it. It is a wild animal, so keeping it here at the bird sanctuary is ultimately not possible.”
