Rare orange lobster rescued from death in boiling water | Abroad

It was the kitchen staff at a lobster restaurant in Hollywood, Florida, who recognized the rare beast among the other fresh lobsters delivered in a water bowl.

They named her “Cheddar,” after the restaurant’s famous Cheddar Bay Biscuits. “Sometimes miracles happen, and Cheddar is one of them,” said Mario Roque, manager at Red Lobster restaurant chain.

They contacted Ripley’s Aquarium in Myrtle Beach who came to collect the lobster. Instead of ending up on a plate as a delicacy, scientific research will now be done on it.

According to scientists, orange lobsters are even rarer than blue lobsters: While the chance of finding a blue lobster is one in a million, the chance of finding an orange lobster is only one in 30 million.
