The popular French rapper Werenoi, born as Jérémy Bana Owona, died at the age of 31. His producer confirmed that on X on Saturday, writes AFP news agency. Nothing is known about the cause of death of the artist, but there were already reports on Friday that Werenoi would have died in the hospital after a sudden deterioration of his health.

Werenoi broke through in 2021 with the song ‘Guadalajara’. Then the albums followed Carré (2023), Pyramid (2024) and Black Diamondthat appeared last month. His albums were high in the French charts, Black Diamond Even came in at number one. According to De Snep, the French foundation that represents the interests of the French music industry, Werenoi sold most albums of all artists in France both in 2023 and in 2024.

Despite that interest in his music, little is known about the rapper’s private life, who grew up in Montreuil, a place east of Paris, in a family of Cameroonian descent. In January last year, Wenneroi told the French newspaper in a rare interview Le Parisien: “I prefer to keep my private life to myself. If you talk too much, you can say things that you don’t want to say. I prefer mystery. I say enough about myself in my lyrics.”
