The investigation against French soccer star Kylian Mbappé in Sweden has been closed due to lack of evidence.
The responsible public prosecutor’s office wrote in a statement that it involved an alleged rape and two alleged cases of sexual harassment in a hotel in central Stockholm in October. Mbappé was not mentioned by name in the statement.
Swedish media reported unanimously that these were allegations against the 25-year-old Real Madrid striker.
Prosecutor: No sufficient evidence
After the football star visited the Swedish capital in October, Swedish media reported that Mbappé was being investigated on suspicion of rape. The public prosecutor’s office confirmed at the time that a report of rape had been received by the police. But she did not say who the suspicion was directed against.
Now the responsible prosecutor, Marina Chirakova, said there was insufficient evidence in the case. The investigation would therefore be discontinued.
Mbappé: Never felt affected by allegations
Mbappé recently commented on the reports in an interview on French television. On the TV show “clique” on “Canal+“The captain of the French national team said he never felt affected by the allegations. “I was surprised. I’m still surprised, by the way. These are things that happen and you don’t see them coming” said Mbappé.
The prosecutor’s office did not officially name the plaintiff. According to Swedish media, the incident is said to have occurred at the Bank Hotel in central Stockholm.
