Time for profound changes for Ram, the American brand of Stellantis. At the end of the year the Ram 1500 Classic will definitively leave the scene, together with the iconic 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine, after 15 years of production. The obvious move is towards electrification and in this sense Ram has surprisingly changed its strategy by postponing the launch of its flagship electric product, Ram 1500 Rev, the first “medium” battery-powered pick-up, for the benefit of ” range extended”. Thus Ramcharger will be open for orders in the United States in the first half of 2025 while the Ram 1500 Rev will arrive in 2026. Stellantis, in a statement, explained that the decision “was driven by enormous consumer interest, by maintaining a competitive advantage in technology and slowing industry demand for half-ton BEV pickups.”

GREAT AUTONOMY

The brand new Ram 1500 Ramcharger, with a range of up to approximately 1,110 km, is equipped with a 92 kWh battery pack, combined with a 130 kW on-board generator, i.e. the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine which acts as a range extender , which sends power to the front 250 kW and rear 238 kW Electric Drive Modules (EDMs). Bi-directional vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-home charging offers the 1500 Ramcharger the possibility of recharging another battery electric vehicle from the Stellantis group or feeding the energy back into the grid. The vehicle is 469 cm long, 220 wide and 177 high with a wheelbase of almost 270 cm.

663 HORSES

Performance figures include a 0 to 60 mph (approximately 100 km/h) time of 4.4 seconds, 663 hp and over 834 Nm of torque, up to a best-in-class towing capacity of 6,350 kg, with a “class 5” hook and a maximum useful capacity of 1,133 kg, the best in the category, if we consider the US market. Both models will be built in the Sterling Heights (Michigan) plant where the variants with internal combustion engines are also assembled. The arrival on the European market is certain: however, Stellantis has specified that “availability for European customers will be announced separately”.
