In his role as a TV expert, Ralf Schumacher is strolling through the pit lane in Qatar. Then suddenly the record world champion comes shooting.

That could have been a bad thing: Ralf Schumacher was almost involved in an accident during training for the Qatar Grand Prix. However, the near-collision did not take place on the racetrack, as is usual in Formula 1, but in the pit lane.

In his role as a TV expert for Sky broadcaster, Schumacher was in front of the teams’ garages to make more detailed observations about the cars and any work on the cars. However, he had to share the space in the pit lane with some team managers and camera teams.

While trying to weave past the numerous people, the six-time Formula 1 race winner took a step too far towards the “fast lane”, i.e. the lane where the moving cars are in the pit lane. Record world champion Lewis Hamilton just arrived there in his Ferrari.

However, Schumacher reacted quickly and jumped back a step to safety. Sky commentator Sascha Roos, who watched the whole thing live, still felt frightened. A loud “Ui!” escaped him when he saw Hamilton shoot past his fellow commentator.

However, Schumacher himself was completely unimpressed: “Everything’s fine, everything’s fine, nothing’s happening,” he immediately tried to reassure Roos. And added: “Still, I was far enough away. Don’t stress. It’s called a reaction test.” Roos just said with relief: “I’m awake now.” Schumacher immediately countered: “Me too.”
