For the time being, large pumps and water trucks are ready to pump water from the road and keep the road safe and passable. The province is trying to combine raising the road with major maintenance, it reports ANP. The technical development, required studies, permit applications and tendering are expected to take one and a half to two years.
Regular water on the road
In recent months, the province has investigated what measures are possible against flooding on the road. The research shows that raising the bend in the Zeeweg, near the Uilenvangersweg, is effective. This point is the lowest part of the road where water flows onto the road during rain. The elevation will solve this problem.
Until the road is raised, the pumps and water trucks cannot drain all the water if the groundwater rises too much. In that case, the province can close a lane to traffic.
There has been regular water on the road since February. And in the coastal village, the low-lying Kerkstraat was also completely flooded before. Sandbags, pumps, hoses and a tanker were previously used to clear the bend in the N510, near the Uilenvangersweg, of water. But without long-term success.
