In two days, more than 36,000 euros was raised for the German girl of seven years who was the only family member to survive a canoe accident on the Veluwemeer last week. After the canoe capsized, the girl managed to cling to a buoy. Her mother (32), father (42) and sister (5) died.

The girl’s best friend started a fundraiser on Sunday. The initial target amount of 10,000 euros has been adjusted due to the many donations and now amounts to 60,000 euros.

Both compassionate Dutch and Germans continue to donate. The girlfriend’s father says he will let donors know what happens to the money.

The family comes from the city of Wuppertal, east of Düsseldorf. The mayor of the city said on Tuesday that he was touched by the news. He wants to do everything he can to support family and friends of the family.
