Anja Wicker awards medal at the shooting range
The German co-favorite Anja Wicker remained without a medal. The athlete from Stuttgart, Olympic champion in Sochi 2014, had to deal with two missed shots in the first shooting and finished fifth.
Wicker without “ease”
“I’m not satisfied. I just couldn’t find my rhythm. The lightness was completely missing today”said Wicker. The strong wind also affected her. However, she didn’t want to blame the shooting errors: “I have to take responsibility for that.”
However, it was not the last chance for a medal in Beijing for Wicker. “I won’t let myself be unsettled that easily. There will be new attacks in the next few days”she said combatively.
Martin Fleig also missed the podium
A hoped-for German medal also failed to materialize for the seated men. Like Wicker before him, Freiburg’s Martin Fleig finished fifth.
