The police in Helmond caused a lot of havoc in the city center on Thursday. During a major inspection, no fewer than 64 fines were issued for various traffic violations. Three drivers were also caught for driving under the influence.

The reports flew around the officers’ ears on Thursday. For example, one driver was fined for driving against traffic, another had to pay for a false license plate, and someone on an electric scooter received a blue letter from Leeuwarden.

In addition, fourteen people were fined for illegal parking, thirteen cyclists without lights were fined, eleven people held their phones while driving and five drivers were on the road without seat belts. Three cars also received a fine for windows that were too dark.

It didn’t stop there: two drivers were fined for driving without a driver’s license, two motorists drove through a red light, and two scooter riders were not allowed to continue due to defective brakes. The other seven fines were for various other offenses.

Roller bench and drug use
In addition, officers spotted several mopeds that were going too fast. Nineteen scooter riders are no longer allowed on the road after they drove too fast on the roller bench.

A driver was also stopped on the Europaweg who drove past at 110 km/h, while the speed limit is 70 km/h. When the driver was checked, his car was found to be making much more noise than permitted.

The police also arrested three people who were driving under the influence of drugs. Two drivers probably on speed, the other on cocaine and cannabis.
