After injury misery
End of suffering: BTSV professional before squad comeback
October 16, 2025 – 4:09 p.mReading time: 2 minutes

Sidney Raebiger was plagued by injuries for more than a year. Now the professional from Eintracht Braunschweig is making an impressive return – and could be rewarded for it.
With a remarkable shot, Sidney Raebiger scored 6-0 in Eintracht Braunschweig’s friendly against 1. FC Magdeburg last Thursday. The successful experience during the international break could now be followed by another. The midfielder, who has been plagued by injuries in recent months, is about to return to the Eintracht professional squad at competitive level.
Coach Heiner Backhaus confirmed this during the press conference before the away game at Fortuna Düsseldorf on Friday (kick-off: 6.30 p.m.). “He’s brimming with self-confidence, even though he hasn’t been back for that long,” said Backhaus.
Although the 20-year-old ended up in a “bit of a performance hole” due to the many injuries, the BTSV coach nevertheless attested to his midfielder’s “very great development”.
Raebiger moved from Eintracht Frankfurt to Braunschweig in the summer of 2024. However, it was rarely used. Several muscle injuries and a torn meniscus slowed down the talent. So far there have only been three competitive games for the professionals. In the current season he remained completely unused.
That could change on Friday. Raebiger is “on standby,” explained Backhaus. He is happy that the 20-year-old can be there again. “Because he is simply a player, thanks to his training at RB (Leipzig, editor’s note), who is not that far removed from the subject of counter-pressing, who is very smart, wins a lot of balls and then continues the game well.” He hasn’t been able to fully show that in the 2nd Bundesliga yet. “But I am a supporter of his and he will certainly also be an issue for the game in Düsseldorf,” said Backhaus.
Top performer Lino Tempelmann is also there against Düsseldorf – right from the start. The midfielder was only substituted on against Preußen Münster (1:3) and SC Paderborn (1:2) after suffering a bruise. Now he is “not just a candidate for the starting eleven, but he will play,” Backhaus revealed.
However, central defenders Frederik Jäkel (cruciate ligament injury) and Lukas Frenkert (torn muscle bundle) will be missing – as will outside player Leon Bell Bell, who had to miss the friendly against Magdeburg. Bell Bell is suffering from an adductor strain. “We assume that he will be there for the derby,” said Backhaus, referring to the duel with rivals Hannover 96 on October 26th.
