Radiohead drummer Philip Selway announces new solo album

Radiohead drummer Philip Selway has announced his next solo album. STRANGE DAYS is scheduled for release on February 24, 2023. The single “Check For Signs Of Life” can already be heard as a harbinger.

“I loved making this record and hope you will enjoy it too,” Selway wrote on Facebook. The album is said to be more lavishly instrumented than his first solo albums. “I wanted the soundscape to be broad and big, but to make it kind of wrap around that intimate vocal at the heart of it all,” he describes the album.

He enlisted the likes of Portishead’s Adrian Utley and British composer and producer Hannah Peel to record. “When Philip Selway asked some of his favorite musicians to play on his third solo record, he said he wanted it to be an album [der US-Songwriterin] Carole King imagined if she had collaborated with pioneering electronic composer Daphne Oram and invited him to drum on him,” writes Selway’s Bella Union label.

Selway’s debut solo album FAMILIAL was released in 2010. Selway recorded it with members of Wilco, among others. In 2014 he released his second album WEATHERHOUSE.
