Lindo Duvall walked out of the Radio 538 studio in anger and has not been heard on the Talpa channel for a week since. “We do not respond to speculation in columns,” Talpa says.
Radio 538 DJ Dennis Ruyer is recovering from an inguinal hernia and therefore his hours — from ten to twelve in the morning — are taken over by colleagues Mark Labrand and Lindo Duvall. Last week, morning DJ Tim Klijn announced that Lindo would be there, but that turned out to be Mark. No big deal You would say, but Lindo thought very differently about that.
About the piss
According to radio authority Patrick Kicken, 52-year-old Lindo was completely upset. “He started shouting at people in the hallway that the morning show was crap. Tim Klijn of course heard this again and he spoke to Lindo about it the next day in the studio. This can all be seen on video footage,” he writes in Speaking tube.
Radio 538 films all broadcasts via webcam and Patrick watched it back. “We see Tim angrily with his arms in the air, asking Lindo, who then reads the files aloud with the same angry face,” he says. “A little later, program boss Dave Minneboo comes into the studio to have a quick chat with Lindo.”
Angry away
Although Lindo was supposed to make radio until 2 p.m. that day, he stormed out of the studio at 11 a.m. “After which Tim Klijn quickly takes over from him for an hour. And since that event last Thursday, Duvall has not been heard on 538,” says Patrick.
He continues: “Insiders claim that this is not the first time that there has been a dispute between Lindo and other deejays and that he has previously received some kind of warning to stop this. A case of the last straw and a mandatory holiday?”
What does Talpa say?
Trade site RadioFreak has verified Patrick’s claims. “What we do know for sure is that Lindo is clearly angry during his program and he gets into a discussion with his boss. This can be seen on webcam images that RadioFreak.nl has reviewed.”
Talpa tells that site: “We do not respond to speculation from columns.”
Such secrecy is never useful, as became apparent over the past month and a half during the Jack van Gelder riot.
Stress
Anyway: Patrick now has news. “The story now is that Lindo first receives professional help for his stress and is then allowed to return. Hooray! Humanity can still be found in radio land and at Talpa,” he says.
He concludes: “As a manager, keep in mind: what does it do to a person mentally if he is responsible for four hours for what hundreds of thousands of people hear, including your colleagues in the building plus owner John de Mol…”
