Racist attack on youth – emotional video by Dilan (17)

In an emotional video, 17-year-old Dilan addresses the public. She reports from the hospital about a racist attack on a tram in which she was injured.

According to the police, a dispute about a mouth and nose cover in a tram in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg escalated on February 5, during which the young woman was brutally attacked and beaten. On Wednesday, the Berlin police then admitted an error in their first presentation on Sunday.

The question was whether the dispute broke out because of a missing corona mask or whether it was actually about racism, as Dilan (17) later emphasized in the video. The police said on Wednesday that the information used “came from the criminal complaints recorded on the spot, which, as further investigations have shown, were worded in an ambiguous way”. Various media and the dpa initially adopted the police’s original account of the incident.

The evaluation of videos showed that “the young person wore a mouth and nose cover when getting on and off the tram and only briefly pulled it down during the argument with the six adults that followed the racist insults.”

On Sunday evening, the police added to the first message and wrote of “racist insult and assault” and looked for witnesses.
